Jars Ceramistes, France

Jars Ceramistes, France

From its roots in horticultural pottery through to today’s much sought-after contemporary tableware collections in glazed stoneware, Jars’ history spans more than a 150 years Since it was founded by Pierre Jars, the traditional craft of potters’ skills has been passed down the generations and still lives on today.

Each piece of stoneware passes through the hands of the ceramicist around 17 times; turning, modeling, casting, filtering, edging, dipping, putting in and out of the kiln, mixing, stacking, aerographing, back stamping, drying, sifting, checking, sanding, coiling, tempering, marking, stretching, turning out, polishing, vitrifying, glazing, marking out.

So many careful and delicate hand processes to fashion a fine piece of stoneware.
